Interesting.. though no Eric Erlandson (founding member) and the only person from the last line up is Melissa auf der Maur and shes only doing backing vocals.

Hole in one ... Courtney Love is to revive her old band name. Photograph: Martin Godwin

Seven years after the band’s break-up, Courtney Love will resurrect the name Hole for her next album. Nobody’s Daughter, due later this year or early in 2010, will be Hole’s first record since 1998, and largely a partnership between Love and English guitarist Micko Larkin.

Although Hole will tour, this is no reunion. Instead, the resurrected band recalls Billy Corgan’s new Smashing Pumpkins – in which he is the only original member. Eric Erlandson, Hole’s co-founder, is nowhere to be seen – and bassist Melissa auf der Maur, though she will play concerts with Love, only provides backing vocals on the new album.

However, Love told NME this week that she had no choice but to revive her rock’n'roll moniker. After binning early sessions with pop songwriter Linda Perry, her planned solo album went “from being an aspiration of [Bob Dylan's] Blood On the Tracks to … [David Bowie's] Diamond Dogs”. “It’s huge,” Love said, “like a big, fist-shaped hole.”

“The rock Courtney didn’t really go away, but I needed a rock partner,” she continued. “I have my rock partner now.” The lucky fellow is Micko Larkin, of defunct London band Larrikin Love. “I am old enough to be his cool auntie,” Love admits.

As previously mentioned, Auf der Maur appears on the album in a modest capacity. So do members of heavy-metal string quartet Apocalyptica. Nobody’s Daughter will be produced by Michael Beinhorn, who also worked on Hole’s 1998 album, Celebrity Skin. No label has been announced – nor is there any word on that tampon sponsorship.

Love has also announced plans to launch a US festival next year, and to “unleash” Florence and the Machine on North America, but for now her focus is on finishing the album originally promised for 1 January, 2009. “[I'm wearing] my first pair of leather pants in 20 years,” Love said. She must be serious.

This will be, interesting.

So Mike sent me an invite for Spotify. It seems to be VERY similar to live365 as they have radiostreams, but you can also listen to streamed music for FREE and it has an amazing catalouge to chose from! Ive found a lot of old albums I couldnt on places like iTunes or find to download illegally.  The sound quality is amazing and theres no refreshing of the stream, or drop in connection. Its really like listening to your own music catalouge except its via the web. my fave bit? it WORKS with my last.fm account and scrobbles without issues! unfortunately at this time i cant control it through the taskbar dock, but you can control the option via your profile page on last.fm

According to their ‘about’ page this is what theyre about:

What is Spotify?

Spotify is a new way to enjoy music. Simply download and install, before you know it you’ll be singing along to the genre, artist or song of your choice. With Spotify you are never far away from the song you want.

There are no restrictions in terms of what you can listen to or when. Forget about the hassle of waiting for files to download and fill up your hard drive before you get round to organising them. Spotify is instant, fun and simple.

Because music is social, Spotify allows you to share songs and playlists with friends, and even work together on collaborative playlists, Friday afternoon in the office might never be the same again! We’re music lovers like everyone else.

We want to connect millions of people with their favorite songs by creating a product that people love to use. We respect creativity and believe in fairly compensating artists for their work. We’ve cleared the rights to use the music you’ll listen to in Spotify.

The software is easy and fast to download. Looks a lot like iTunes & the BBC iPlayer interfaces.

As you can see theres an search bar, shows you recent searches youve made,  if the artist youve select has any albums available and how many tracks of theirs are available on the site. Its really easy to use and just great.

It be interesting to see how far this gets. its only in beta stage with invites (kinda like gmail!) only to gain access to the site. Mike said he joined a few days back and now has a bunch of invites, so once i get some more i may start spreading the love.

Looks like theres a sequel to the seminal Sheffield documentary ‘made in sheffield‘ and its will be called ‘the beat is the law‘ with a 2009 release. Which is very exciting to me, as I really loved MiS. Apparently on December 5th & 6th there will be a special screening of Made in Sheffield at the famous Showroom, which will also hold the debut of the full length trailer for ‘The Beat is the Law‘.  Im going to try to go depending on what my work schedule is that day..

RT 30th Competition & a New Blog

You may be skint, you may be unconvinced, you may just like the thrill of the unknown – if so, why not enter our on-line competition to win free tickets for the up-coming “Looking Rough at 30″ shows? All you have to do is e-mail Mr Ryan McCann at ryan.mccann@roughtraderecords.com (stating your venue of choice) & he will randomly select 8 lucky winners. What have you got to lose?

Ok,ok, ok – if you were my child you would have been taken off me, due to neglect. I never told you about South America, I never told you about North America, I never told you about Greenland, I never told you about Scott (Walker) Land. But I CAN tell you this: the new era is beginning.Oh yes. Something is happening isn’t it? Things feel different – like we all just woke up after a particularly bad dream. It’s not time to punch the air just yet but it IS time to get out of bed & get dressed. And put some decent clothes on will yer? Concerts in a week’s time; a chance to meet up face to face & breathe the same air. The physical realm DOES exist. I’m not sure exactly what’s going to happen but I know I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It’s not about me. It’s not about you. It’s about us.

mmhmmhmm i can not wait until tuesday night to meet up at the Disco 2000!!! yayaya

(video links are not working, sorry)

This is just too cool for words. (might need ie to make it work)

The Imperial March on a floppy disk is still cool and all, but this video takes the concept to a whole new level. It’s Radiohead’s Nude being played on all kinds of computer parts. It was made by James Houston, a student from the Glasgow School of Art’s visual communication program. And not only is the music amazing well created, but the video is legit as well. The instruments are as follows:

Sinclair ZX Spectrum – Guitars (rhythm & lead)
Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer – Drums
HP Scanjet 3c – Bass Guitar
Hard Drive array – Act as a collection of bad speakers – Vocals & FX

Let it load and then skip to a little after 1:00 for it to get started. Otherwise you have to listen to a minute of static and watch some flashing color bands that may or may not be trying to hypnotize you. They only gave me a boner though. I love static. And flashing colors? Don’t even get me started. *shivers*

Yeah… thats cool.

posted off my absetee ballot tonight as we’re leaving to go to tenerife tomorrow morning at 6am and im not going to be back here in time to post it off closer to the election. if theres a close count in babylon town, my vote will count, damnit!

listened to the new ryan adams and i like it, but im also a fanboy (fangirl??) so i dont know what that says about me. it a little all over the place, lyrically and style, but the cardinals sound VERY tight and ryan is just lost in outer space.  there apparently a book being released, i dont think im getting it.

hmm i randomly saw that the hold steady are coming back to sheffield and the leadmill. maybe theyll play the larger room this time and not given the boot for the lame school disco they hold. heh. abc and the human league are touring as well in decemeber.. ill probably go to both. ive never seen the human league perform so hopefully it be good considering theyll be in their home town (they all still live here…)

anyways i think this will be the last post until we get back on the 31st, though if things get crazy ill probably sneak off to an internet cafe and blog out my brains. or at least play around on facebook. heh.

damnit ive just discovered ive lost my photos from when i saw the hold steady in feb 2007. gaaaaaaaaaah.  they have to be somewhere… probably on mikes computer. grr.
